Bartosz Bretes

Biography

I am a Warsaw-based film producer. After several years of running an independent production company, where I produced music videos for recognized artists and campaigns for global brands, I shifted my focus to documentary filmmaking and socially engaged storytelling.

I hold a degree in Film Editing from the Warsaw Film School, where I received a scholarship for top students. I further developed my documentary approach during the DOK PRO course at the Wajda School and, thanks to a Polish Film Institute scholarship, participated in the Green Film Lab workshops in Budapest in 2025.

Currently, I am working on my first feature-length documentary as both producer and director – Trapped in the Extraordinary. Developed during the DOK PRO course, further refined in workshops with Niels Pagh Andersen at MDAG Industry, and pitched during the Wajda School New Talents showcase at the Warsaw Film Festival. The film is currently in rough cut.

In parallel, I am producing Invasion – a hybrid documentary directed by Wojciech Skrzypczyński about raccoons that have escaped human control, exposing our own obsessions and contradictions in our relationship with nature. The project is in early development and currently seeking institutional funding.

I am also committed to fair and sustainable filmmaking. I worked on Simona Kossak, recognized as the most environmentally sustainable production at the 2024 Gdynia Film Festival, and served as a Sustainability Coordinator on a recent Polish Netflix original feature. I co-authored the ecological criteria for the Fair Film Poland award (first edition in 2026) and am a member of the Film for Climate initiative and KIPA (Polish Producers Alliance).
